Web and Logo Design

I helped Colectivo Lento to come up with the look and feel for their website and logo for their side project: Experimenta la plaza.

Colectivo Lento is a creative group focused on art and cultural events. Experimenta la plaza is a long term project that wants to bring families and communities together. Public spaces are used as the main meeting points where everybody is asked to make something fun and experiment creatively.

During the research process I came up with a simple icon that represents the square (la plaza). The logo is also based on a minimalist approach, where the “p” becomes a square. My client wanted something simple, elegant and playful. The website www.experimentalaplaza.com follows all these guidelines as the intention is to keep creating content and adding more material, like photographs or videos of the events, so we didn’t want to overdo it.

In the future the idea is to also create a blog and a media library. Moreover this is only the first event of many more to come so the website had to be easy to adapt over time. This is why designing the website in WordPress, using the Divi template, was the best approach in order to give the owner the ability to edit it with some guidance from my side.

Another aspect that was very important was to make sure that the design was responsive as most of the people were expected to access through mobile devices.

The look and feel had to be modern, playful and creative. Not too serious or too youthful as it is a long term project that will run very different events over time. The typography and colour scheme were chosen with these goals in mind. Purple conveys creativity, while yellow conveys happiness. They are both optimistic colours that call to mind action and they work well together. The typography of the logo is OCR A Std, a modern font that definitely transmits an experimental feel.
